Chinese, Foreign Experts Discuss Life Quality of Elderly

The International Symposium on Social Development, Leisure and the Elderly opened here Wednesday, attended by over 80 experts from overseas.

The symposium is sponsored by the World Leisure.

The chairperson of World Leisure, Yvonne Harahousou, said the symposium will help professional leisure workers make effective policies and plans for older persons, who themselves can also benefit by making their retirement more meaningful and colorful.

Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau chief Shi Derong gave a report at the meeting, in which he introduced to experts the increasing aging tendency in Shanghai, diversified leisure life for older persons in the city and a plan to build a leisure life system for older persons.

During the four-day meeting, overseas experts will introduce older persons' leisure styles in the United States, Greece, Japan and China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Taiwan province.

Founded in 1952, World Leisure is a non-governmental organization aiming to promote leisure's function of enhancing human health and development.
