Defense Minister Meets Lebanese Chief of Staff

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met with Fadi Aboh Chacra, Lebanese army chief of staff Wednesday.

Chi, who is also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said the peoples and armed forces of China and Lebanon have a long history of traditional friendship.

He said that the two sides have maintained frequent exchanges at different levels in recent years, adding that the exchanges have promoted the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Both China and Lebanon belong to developing countries, and therefore they share common ground in many areas, Chi said.

The exchanges and cooperation between the two countries' armed forces are increasing and their relations are developing unremittingly, he said.

Chi said that he believes in the further development of friendly relations between the two countries' armed forces through Chacra's visit.

Chi also briefed the guest on China's policy of national defense and domestic situation.

Chacra said the purpose of his current visit is to promote mutual understanding between the two nations and their armed forces and to increase friendship and friendly cooperation.

He thanked China for its support and aid to Lebanon.
