German Metro to Open 11th Supermarket in ChinaGerman Metro, a transnational chain-store group, will open its 11th supermarket in China this week in the city of Hangzhou, one of China's most popular scenic cities and also capital of Zhejiang Province.A corporate spokesman said that more than 20,000 kinds of commodity will be sold at the new supermarket, which covers more than 10,000 sq. m. of floor space. German Metro, which is ranked third in size after the US- based Wal-Mart and France-based Carrefour, has opened 10 supermarkets in other cities in China including Shanghai, Chongqing, Wuhan, Fuzhou, Nanjing and Qingdao since the German company started to invest in China in 1995, said the spokesman. Zhejiang Province, which is situated on the east coast of China, is one of the country's most famous regions for collecting and distributing goods. It now has more than 4,000 commodity wholesale and retail markets. |
