Russia Foreign Minister to Visit India Next Month

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov is scheduled to pay a three-day official visit to India from May 3 to carry forward the new momentum in bilateral relations between the two countries, according to an official press release issued Tuesday.

The visit will be the first by a Russian foreign minister in five years and seven months after the visit by Russian President Vladimor Putin last October, when the two countries signed a declaration on strategic partnership.

A spokesman of the External Affairs Ministry told the press here today that New Delhi attaches "very high importance to the visit and to regular high-level political contacts" between the two countries.

Ivanov is expected to hold extensive discussions with his Indian counterpart Jaswant Singh on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest, he added.
