Amendments to Chinese Copyright Law Expected to Be Approved

The amendment draft of the Copyright Law was submitted to the NPC Standing Committee for the second consideration on April 19 and it is expected to be approved this May or June, according to Wang Huapeng, director of the copyright department of the National Copyright Administration.

Wang said at the "Forum on Protecting Software Intellectual Property Rights and Technology" held on April 23 that this time the amendment draft would only be revised in a small way for it had been first submitted to the NPC Standing Committee for the consideration last December.

He revealed that the "Computer Software Protection Rules" is also being mapped out and will be implemented once the amendment draft of the Copyright Law be approved.

Sponsored by the China Software Alliance the "Forum on Protecting Software Intellectual Property Rights and Technology" were attended by experts and delegates from the Ministry of Information Industry, National Copyright Administration, and some software enterprises. They made an in-depth discussion on protecting the intellectual property rights of China's software industry.
