Mortar Shells Attack Jewish Settlement in Gaza Strip

Three mortar shells launched from the Palestinian Khan Yunis refugee camp in the Gaza Strip struck the Gush Katif settlement on Tuesday, Israeli television reported.

The shells fell among greenhouses of the Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip, but did not cause any injury or damage, the television said.

It was the first mortar attack on Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip since Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat reiterated his demand to stop shooting at or shelling Israeli targets in and around the Gaza Strip last Thursday.

No group has claimed responsibility for the mortar attack on Tuesday.

The Palestinian National Authority reportedly has arrested a dozen militants involved in previous mortar attacks.

The Palestinians call on Israel to dismantle all the settlements in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, which Israel has established illegally after the 1967 Mideast War.
