Chinese Foreign Trade Minister Meets ROK GuestsChinese Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng met Tuesday with Chang Che-Shik, commerce, industry and energy minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK).The two sides signed an agreement on setting up a Sino-ROK investment and cooperative commission. Shi said that both Chinese and ROK leaders attach importance to Sino-ROK economic and trade relations, and the Sino-ROK investment and cooperative commission will be a component of Sino-ROK economic and trade cooperation, having been established at the initiative of the prime ministers of the two countries. He said that developing trade and maintaining a trade balance are the common responsibilities of the two countries. To achieve this purpose, Shi suggested that the two sides guarantee the stable development of bulk commodity exports; a trade fair should be held regularly; the ROK should reduce tariffs for the imported commodities, and pursue non-tariff measures; and the two sides should improve the mechanism for exchanging information. Shi invited Chang to attend the second Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Investment Mart, to be held in Yantai, Shandong Province, this June, and Chang agreed to attend it. Chang said that promoting trade cooperation between the ROK and China benefits both. The ROK has paid great attention to the imbalance in bilateral trade, and the enterprises of the two countries should maintain contact to strike a trade balance and develop cooperation, he added.
