Marriage Law Amendments Put to Vote SaturdayThe nation-wide concerned amendments to China's Marriage Law would be put to vote for adoption on Saturday before the 21st meeting of the National People's Congress Standing Committee closes.Chairman Li Peng of the NPC Standing Committee said a meeting to be attended by the chairman and vice-chairmen of the standing committee will decide, according to the examination result of the amendments by the standing committee, whether or not to put the amendments to vote for adoption at the closing meeting of standing committee. Chinese lawmakers and the general public have been debating on issues of bigamy or raising concubines, domestic violence and family property separation upon divorce. In not more than 50 days after the top legislature publicized the draft amendments to solicit opinions earlier this year, it has received a total of 3,829 letters and calls from the public. Also to be put for vote Saturday are drafts of the Tax Law, the Trust Law and the Law on National Defense Education. |
