DPRK Condemns Japanese Lawmakers' Visit to Yasukuni ShrineThe Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) condemned Monday Japanese lawmakers' recent visit to the controversial Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, calling it an intolerable insult to the Asian victims of Japan's past imperialism.A commentary of the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) also regarded the visit as some Japanese politicians' renewed advocation of the revival of militarism, noting that choosing to visit the war shrine or not reflects Japanese politicians' attitude towards the history of Japan's past aggression and military occupation of other Asian countries. The Shinto religious shrine, often viewed as the symbol of Japan's militarism, honors convicted war criminals together with some 2.6 million Japanese who have died in wars since the 19th century. Last Friday, a total of 86 Japanese Diet members and some one hundred assistants to them officially visited it. The commentary criticized this new move by Japan's right-wing politicians to attempt to gloss over history in defiance of the historical truth.
