Zambia, Angola, Namibia Reaffirm Security Cooperation

Defence and foreign affairs ministers from Zambia, Angola and Namibia Monday concluded here a tripartite meeting, with a joint communique calling for security cooperation along their common borders.

The communique said the meeting adopted "the rules of procedure and the terms of reference for the operation of the tripartite mechanism for political and security cooperation" among the three countries.

"The meeting examined the situation along their common borders and resolved to effectively address problems that were identified, such as those related to terrorists, armed groups, criminal elements and refugees," it said.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to the security cooperation along the shared borders among the three countries .

The meeting followed a conference by heads of the three countries in February in Angola. Fighting from Angola's 25-year civil war periodically spills into Zambia and Namibia.

At the February summit, the three countries agreed to create a tripartite commission to boost defence along their common borders.
