FM Spokeswoman on Election of New Japanese PM

China hopes that new Japanese leader take concrete actions to abide by the principles stipulated in Sino-Japanese joint statement and other documents, said Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Tuesday at a regular press conference.

Zhang made the remark when asked to comment on the election of new Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

She said that a responsible statesman should take concrete actions to show his sincerity and attitude towards Japan's history of aggression against some Asian countries including China,"

It is a persistent stance that China opposes visits to the Yasukuni Shrine by Japanese political figures, she said.
