Chinese Policemen to Swim across Qiongzhou Straits

On behalf of the Chinese police, a group of over 20 selected from among the policemen for public security and armed police all over China will swim across the Qiongzhou Straits on May 19, to show their support to Beijing's bid for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games and to set a new Guinness World Record as well.

As reported, this is the first activity of its kind in the world, and also the first time for the Chinese police to apply for the Guinness Record with which they are going to show their support to Beijing's bid for 2008 Olympics.

It is a difficult job to swim across the Qiongzhou Straits, which lies in between the Hainan Island and the Leizhou Peninsula of Guangdong Province. Stretching 80 kilometers from east to west it has an average width of 29.5 kilometers from north to south, with a swimming course of 36 kilometers.
