Sri Lankan Woman Involved in Murder of Senior Customs Officer Arrested

Sri Lankan police have arrested a woman together with four more suspects in connection with the recent murder of Customs Assistant Superintendent Sujith Prasanna Perera.

Police said that the woman is a close associate of the main suspect involved in the murder Anura Weerawansa, also a Customs officer, for whom an all island police hunt is on at the moment.

The woman had been allegedly aware of the plot to murder Sujith Perera. Another woman also believed to be a close associate of Weerawansa is also absconding.

Police investigations have revealed that the assassination was a contract killing executed by an underworld gang in connection with Weerawansa.

Police have deployed special teams and is seeking public assistance to arrest Weerawansa. Previously a gunman and three other suspects had been held by the police.

Sujith Perera was shot dead on March 24 by two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle when he was driving his car from his mother- in-law's residence. His brother-in-law who was with him in the war was seriously injured.
