Liu Guozheng Struggles against Yugoslavia

World number six Liu Guozheng ran into a real test against Aleksandar Karakasevic in China's 3-0 victory over Yugoslavia in the men's team event of the World Table Tennis Championships here on Tuesday.

Karakasevic, who had beaten Chinese star Liu Guoliang in the 1997 championships, took the first set from Liu Guozheng, who finally won the second rubber 14-21, 21-17, 21-9.

World Cup winner Ma Lin overcame mid-game setbacks to beat Slobodan Grujic 21-16, 19-21, 21-17 in the opening game.

Olympic champion Kong Linghui made it 3-0 for China when he routed Rade Markovic 21-17, 21-11 in the third game.

The Chinese women team earlier beat Lithuania 3-0 while Chinese Taipei rolled over Slovakia 3-1.

South Korea outlasted Croatia 3-2 and Romania edged Russia 3-1.
