More Chinese Goods to UN Expected
Beijing plans to stage an Information Exchange and Trade Fair from May 10-15, aiming to facilitate exchanges between domestic manufactures and various United Nations (UN) organizations.
A UN purchasing group will introduce a series of projects, involving trucks, tents and electronic equipment at the fair, and face-to-face exchanges between UN officials and Chinese entrepreneurs will also be possible, Tuesday's China Daily reports.
UN spends an average of about 3 billion US dollars a year around the world on goods, 45 percent of which is spent in developing countries, official statistics show.
However, only 1 percent of the goods bought has been from China, the newspaper quoted Yao Wang, chairman of the Beijing Sub-Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, as saying.
Yao attributed this to the unfamiliarity of Chinese enterprises with UN purchasing principles and a lack of information.
It is difficult for Chinese producers to know which UN organization might need their products and how to contact with the purchasing team, thus, "establishing a platform for the suppliers and the purchasers is very important", said Sun Yongfu. director of the China International Economic and Technological Exchange Center.
Laurence Reno, deputy representatives of the China Representative Office of the United Nations Development Program, expressed his belief that the fair will provide many business opportunities for China's private enterprises.
