Modern Enterprises Grow up on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

The Tibet Autonomous Region currently has eight listed companies with assets worth 3.73 billion yuan (449 million US dollars).

These companies have raised 1.98 billion yuan on the securities market.

Ten companies in Tibet are speeding up preparations to have their stocks listed. Two are expected to be listed later this year, bringing the number of listed companies in Tibet to ten.

Tibet ranks first in China in terms of the ratio of listed companies to the population.

While instituting a modern enterprise system, 84 backbone enterprises in Tibetan attach great importance to technological upgrading and the development of new advantageous products and organize production according to market demand.

The value of Tibet's industrial output amounted to 1.79 billion yuan last year, 3.34 times the figure for 1996.

The eight listed companies focus production on such areas as pharmaceuticals, tourism, network and high technology.
