Palestinian, Israeli Liaison Officers Meet in Gaza Strip

Palestinian and Israeli liaison officers met in the Gaza Strip on Monday, Palestinian sources said.

The meeting failed to come out with any results as the Israeli side withdrew plans to ease blockade on Palestinian territories, the sources added.

Later in the day, another security meeting between the two sides is expected to be held at the residence of the U.S. ambassador to Israel, during which they would discuss ways of ending violence in the Palestinian territories.

Head of the General Palestinian Intelligence Amin Al-Hindi said in an interview with Voice of Palestine radio on Monday that more high-level meetings are likely. But he did not elaborate.

Saturday night, Palestinian and Israeli security liaison officers met at the Erez checkpoint between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

The Israeli side termed the meeting as "positive," while the Palestinians said that the gap between the two sides was still wide, and no consensus was reached.
