Hong Kong Customs to Host APEC Seminar

Customs officials from the Asia Pacific Region and representatives of the express industry worldwide will gather in Hong Kong to attend a three-day seminar on clearance of express consignments, starting from April 24.

The seminar, the "APEC SCCP Seminar on the World Customs Organization (WCO)'s Immediate Release Guidelines", is hosted by Hong Kong Customs under the auspices of the Sub-Committee of Customs Procedures (SCCP) of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Over 50 delegates representing the 21 Customs administrations of the APEC member economies and major express carrier associations including the International Express Carriers Conference (IECC), Conference of Asia Pacific Express Carriers (CAPEC) and Hong Kong International Courier Association (HICA) will take part in the seminar.

Both customs and the express industry worldwide are aware of the need to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness in clearing express consignments in view of the ever-increasing growth of courier traffic, particularly in light of the impacts of e-commerce on the international movement of goods.

Participants will discuss Customs-Industry partnership on clearance of express consignments in general, and the WCO's Guidelines for the Immediate Release of Consignments by Customs in particular.

During the seminar, speakers from both Customs and the express industry will share their concerns and experience as well as address on the various salient issues of the subject.
