Chinese CPPCC Leader Arrives in PretoriaLi Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), arrived in Pretoria on Monday from Cape Town to continue with his six-day official goodwill visit to South Africa.Li was met at the airport by South African government officials, representatives from the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Consulate General in Johannesburg, as well as local Chinese residents. In Cape Town, South African National Assembly Speaker Frene Ginwala came to the hotel where Li was staying to bid farewell to him. During his stay in Cape Town, Li held separate meetings with President Thabo Mbeki, Deputy President Jacob Zuma and Ginwala to discuss bilateral ties and issues of mutual concern. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the smooth development of bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic ties in early 1998. Li arrived in Cape Town on April 19 for a six-day official goodwill visit aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation. South African is the second leg of Li's four-nation tour, which also includes Mauritius, Morocco and Turkey. |
