Cambodia to Strengthen Friendly Relationship with China: Cambodian Leaders

Cambodian leaders Monday highly commended the friendly relationship between Cambodia and China, saying that it is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples and serves peace and development of the region.

Norodom Ranariddh, President of National Assembly, and Prime Minister Hun Sen made the remark when respectively meeting with visiting Chinese delegation of the China-Cambodia Friendship Association.

They all indicated that the Cambodian-Chinese good relationship established by King Norodom Sihanouk and the three-generations of Chinese leaders has laid the foundation for development of Cambodian-Chinese friendship, and has tremendous potential of growth.

Hun Sen said that the Cambodian government supports China to enter the WTO, saying that he had ordered officials of the Foreign Ministry to support China to enter the WTO because it can play an important role in the regional affairs.

They all expressed their gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their concern for the king's health.

Gu Xiulan, president of the China-Cambodia Friendship Association, said that the Chinese people wish Sihanouk a good health and wish Cambodia achieve greater results in its reconstruction.

The delegation arrived here last Friday for a 5-day visit at the invitation of the Cambodia-China Friendship Association.

Sihanouk Reiterates "One-China" Stand

King Norodom Sihanouk has reaffirmed that Cambodia will firmly adhere to the "One-China" policy, stressing that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

The king made the remark when meeting a delegation from the China-Cambodia Friendship Association headed by its president Gu Xiulan at the Royal Palace Monday.

Sihanouk expressed his welcome to the delegation, saying that the delegation's visit would enhance the friendly relationship between Cambodia and China.

The Cambodian people thanked China for its selfless assistance either in their fight for defending sovereignty or in reconstruction of their country, he said, adding that the Cambodian people would never forget it and the Cambodian-Chinese friendship would continue to enjoy support of the peoples of the two countries.

The King highly commended the achievements made by China in all aspects under the leadership of President Jiang Zemin.

The Chinese delegation arrived in Cambodia last Friday on a 5- day visit at the invitation of Cambodia-China Friendship Association.
