China, Indonesia to Strengthen Cooperation in Agriculture, Fisheries

Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao said Monday that China expects to strengthen its friendly cooperation with Indonesia in agriculture and fisheries.

Wen made the remarks in a meeting with Indonesian Minister of Maritime and Fisheries Sarwono Kusumaatmaja and his party.

Wen said that China and Indonesia, two developing countries, enjoy a long history of traditional friendship.

The two countries are both big countries in agriculture and fisheries, Wen said, adding that they should further their cooperation in the fields.

He said that the memorandum of understanding on fishery cooperation signed by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries Monday morning shows the expectation of the Indonesian government to enhance the friendly cooperation with China in various areas.

China is also willing to further enhance its political and economic cooperation with Indonesia, Wen added.

Sarwono said that his country wishes to further the friendly cooperation with China in fisheries.

The Indonesian guests are here at the invitation of the Ministry of Agriculture.
