The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, or Hamas, Monday claimed responsibility for Sunday morning's suicide bombing attack in northern Israeli city of Kfar Sava.
A statement issued by the militant organization said Omar Atawa, one of its members and a Palestinian refugee living in Gaza, carried out the attack, which killed the suicide bomber himself, an Israeli doctor and injured more than 50 others, including a 14- year-old boy and a pregnant woman.
"Hamas will continue to send suicide bombers into Israeli territory," the statement said.
Israeli police have beefed up security measures for fear that militant Palestinians will launch more bombing attacks against Israeli targets on the eve of Israel's 53rd Independence Day, due to be marked on Thursday.
