Roundup: Ninth National Congress of CPV Achieves SuccessThe Ninth National Congress of Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), concluded here Sunday afternoon, has achieved remarkable success after adopting four important documents and electing new general secretary of CPV Central Committee.The four-day congress, began on Thursday, reviewed and evaluated the struggles of Vietnamese people in the 20th century, 15 years of renovation as well as five years of implementation of the resolution of the 8th National Congress of CPV, and also mapped out the orientations and tasks for national development in the coming years. The congress was attended by 1,168 delegates of CPV and 34 foreign party delegations, including the delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) led by Hu Jintao, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Chinese vice-president. The National Congress of CPC has adopted four important documents, namely the Political Report of the 8th Central Committee of CPV, Strategy for Socio-Economic Development 2001- 2010, the Orientation and Tasks of the Five-Year Socio-Economic Plan in the Period of 2001-2005 and the Report for Revised Party Constitution. The 9th National Congress of CPV affirmed that the Vietnamese party and people will build Vietnam along the socialist road on the basis of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought and stick to the renovation and opening-up policy. The congress mapped out the development strategy for the 2001- 2010 period and stressed that the strategy is aimed at bringing Vietnam out of underdevelopment, and improving noticeably the people material and spiritual life, laying the foundations for making the country basically a modern-oriented industrialized country by 2010. By 2010, the country's gross domestic product (GDP) will have at least doubled the level of 2000, according to the strategy. In the five-year period between 2001 and 2005, Vietnam strives to attain an average GDP growth rate of 7.5 percent. As for Vietnam's foreign policy, the congress affirmed that the task in the field of foreign relations of the country is to maintain national independence and sovereignty, establish peaceful environment and create favorable international conditions for accelerating socio-economic development, national industrialization and modernization, construction and defense of the homeland. To finish the task, Vietnam will continue to attach great importance to the development of friendship and cooperation relations with socialist countries and neighboring countries, consolidate and expand the relations with developing countries which have traditional friendship with Vietnam, promote diversified relations with developed nations, international and regional organizations. Vietnam once again announced that the country is ready to be a friend of all countries in the international community, striving for peace, independence and development. The 9th National Congress of CPV also elected a 150-member party central committee. The 1st Plenum of the 9th Party Central Committee elected a 15- member political bureau of CPVCC, a nine-member secretariat of CPVCC, and a nine-member control commission of CPVCC. 61-year-old Nong Duc Manh, now holds the position of the chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, was elected general secretary of the CPVCC. Ninth National Congress of CPV ConcludesThe Ninth National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) closed Sunday afternoon.The delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), led by Hu Jintao, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Vice-President, attended the closing ceremony of the Ninth CPV National Congress. The four-day CPV congress, which opened on Thursday, has adopted four important documents, namely the Political Report of the Eighth Central Committee of the CPV, Strategy for Socio- Economic Development 2001-2010, the Orientation and Tasks of the Five-Year Socio-Economic Plan in the Period of 2001-2005 and the Report on Revised Party Constitution. The congress also elected a 150-member Party Central Committee. The first plenum of the new Party Central Committee elected a 15-member Political Bureau of the CPVCC, a nine-member Secretariat of the CPVCC and a nine-member Control Commission of the CPVCC. The 61-year-old Nong Duc Manh, who is also Vietnamese National Assembly chairman, was elected General Secretary of the CPVCC. In the evening, the CPVCC is scheduled to give a reception in honor of delegations of foreign parties, including the CPC delegation led by Hu Jintao, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Vice- President. Local people will hold a gala to celebrate the success of the ninth CPV National Congress of Sunday night.
