China to Enter WTO in Months, EU Trade Commissioner

China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) is "a problem of months instead of years," European Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy said Saturday in an interview with Radio France International (RFI).

"It is in the interest of the world that China joins the WTO. It is in the interest of Europe, and in the interest of the United States. It corresponds with our global interests and also the interests of China," said Lamy.

Of the negotiations, there are two remaining points of difficulty to resolve and they are solvable, he said, referring to the articles concerning agriculture and insurance.

On agriculture, differences exist mainly in talks between China and the United States. The European Union (EU) "has not taken the same position as the Americans on this issue," said the EU trade commissioner.
