US Tries to Sow Discords Between Chinese Born-Americans and China: SpokeswomanForeign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Friday that the United States has attempted to sow discords in the relationship between Chinese-born Americans and other figures with China by means of issuing a travel warning."This is an extremely erroneous and irresponsible practice," Zhang said. "The Chinese side is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to it." The Chinese side requested the US side to correct its mistake immediately and take measures to clear the negative effects caused by the so-called warning, Zhang said while answering a reporter's question. Recently, the State Department of US issued a warning for traveling to China, claiming that at least two Americans have been detained on charges of espionage or endangering the national security of China. It cautioned that Americans, especially Americans originally from China, may face a risk of being detained upon returning to China, if they have at any time engaged in activities or doing things critical of Chinese government policies. Zhang pointed out that China has always welcomed all foreigners, Americans inclusive, to visit China, and protected their legal interests according to the law. "However, China is a country ruled by law and anybody who comes to China should abide by Chinese laws," she added. "Recently a tiny group of people have been dealt with according to the law because they have violated Chinese laws," she said. "The US side is clear about this." In disregard of facts, the US issued such a warning and made groundless accusations against the handling of some cases by the Chinese judicial authorities in accordance with the law, and fabricated so-called "risks," Zhang said. |
