Israeli Policemen Enter Al Aqsa Mosque Compound in East Jerusalem

Israeli policemen on Friday entered Al Aqsa mosque compound in response to stone-throwing by Muslim worshippers.

After Friday prayers, dozens of Palestinians threw stones from the Al Aqsa mosque compound at Israeli police ringing around the shrine. Eventually, dozens of helmeted Israeli riot police entered the compound.

The site, Islam's third holiest shrine, is the most sensitive spot in the nearly seven-month-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict, triggered by Israeli violation of the holy site last September.

The ongoing bloodshed has so far left more than 470 people dead, most of them Palestinians.

The compound is known to the Muslims as Al-Haram Al-Sharif, or Noble Sanctuary, and to the Jews as the Temple Mount, the holiest site of the Judaism.

Inside the compound, Israeli policemen clashed with Palestinian worshipers and two of them lightly injured, the police said.
