First Quarter Foreign Trade Down in Eastern Province

Foreign trade in east China's Anhui Province amounted to 750 million US dollars in the first quarter of the year, down 2.2 percent compared to the same period last year.

Statistics show that exports increased by 1.7 percent to reach 470 million US dollars. Imports dropped to 280 million US dollars, down 7.9 percent.

Processing trade witnessed a decrease of some 17 percent. While general trade grew by 5.4 percent in the first three months of the year.

Exports to European countries and North America totaled 110 and 80 million US dollars respectively, up 21 and 9.1 percent.

The top export commodities included machinery and electrical products, garments and textile products.
