Somali Govt to Put Country Into Full Alert

The Somali government said Thursday that it has decided to put the country into full alert after an emergency meeting by the cabinet ministers last night.

The move aims to guard against anti-government activities in the country.

The interim government said in a communique that Somalia is facing a new threat imposed by rebel forces led by different warlords in the country.

The government will launch a new campaign aimed at energizing the government and the people's efforts to make new peace initiative at national level under the leadership of Somali neutral and prestigious veterans, the communique said.

Meanwhile, a meeting attended by some warlords opposing to the interim government Thursday entered the second day in Baidoa in southwestern Somalia, discussing plans to hold another meeting for the establishment of a new government.
