China Pour in 14 Billion Yuan for Inland Water Transport Construction

This year China will invest 14 billion yuan for the construction of its Inland water transportation.

China will draw some funds from fuel taxation, which was reformed a couple of months ago, for infrastructure construction of the inland water transportation and the structure adjustment of shipping industry.

The inland shipping is a traditional means of transportation in China. Related departments have issued preferential policies to encourage the inland water transportation.

This year, investment in Yangtze River waterways will surpass that of last year. According to the Ministry of Communications, stresses will be laid on the three aspects of work. First, it is to strengthen the construction of the Yangtze River waterways, secondly, to harness hurdles and shoals along the middle reaches of the river, and finally to continue to complete the second and third phases of the deep-water waterway projects along the Yangtze River.
