Ukrainian President Meets Chinese Military Delegation

Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma met in Kiev Thursday with a visiting Chinese military delegation headed by General Cao Gangchuan, a member of the Chinese Central Military Commission.

Welcoming Cao's visit to Ukraine, Kuchma spoke highly of the development of bilateral ties. He said that the two countries shared identical views on many important international issues and had seen friendly cooperation in all spheres.

Kuchma pointed out that developing the relations between the two countries and the two armies not only serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but also will benefit the peace and stability in the world. He also reiterated his country's adherence to the "One China" policy.

On the same day, Ukraine's national security and defense chief Yevhen Marchuk held talks with General Cao, who is also director of the General Armament Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

The Chinese delegation arrived here on Tuesday for an official visit to Ukraine.
