China Wins in Asian Youth Championship

China registered its third consecutive win Thursday night by beating title-contender Japanese team in straight sets in the third Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship in Trang province, 828 kilometers south of Bangkok, local media reported Friday.

Demonstrating good attacks and defense, the big and agile Chinese girls outclassed Japan 25-18, 25-19 and 25-19.

China now leads Pool B with three wins, and secured a place in semi-finals. They will be Pool B winners if they beat the India today in a match considered to be a "piece of cake" for Chinese girls.

In Poll A, Chinese Taipei has finished top of the group with three wins.

Nine teams are divided into two groups in the championship. Top three finishers in the competition, which ends on Monday, will qualify for the World Youth Girls Championship in 2002.
