Practicing Hegemonism under Pretext of Human Rights Hard to Escape Failure

On April 18, the 57th session of the UN Human Right Commission decided not to deliberate the draft resolution of so-called human right situation in China, which was painstakingly cooked up by the United States. The plot of the United States and some other Western countries to practice hegemony and power politics under the pretext of the human right issue has once again fallen through.

The plot of the United States and other Western countries to get their anti-China motions to pass at human right sessions is already nothing new. Since 1990, they have dished up anti-China motions for 10 successive times at human right sessions, which, however, have failed each time under the opposition of justice-upholding member countries. In tabling its anti-China motions, the United States invariably slandered that the human right situation in China had "further deteriorated". However, facts cannot be denied and right and wrong cannot be reversed. As everybody knows, since China introduced the reform and opening policy, the country has become prosperous and its people have been living a contented and peaceful life, and it has witnessed logical administration and harmony among the people. Recent years are an important historical period in which China has achieved rapid economic and social development and all-round progress in its human right cause. The proportion of its impoverished population has dropped to the lowest point in history, people's living standards have risen by a big margin, China has brought about two historic leaps from poverty to having ample food and clothing and further to a fairly comfortable life.

In its efforts to build a socialist country ruled by law, China has adopted a series of active measures to strengthen legislation, enforce strict law, punish corruption and promote construction of democracy in grass-roots units. Regarding this, the nearly 1.3 billion Chinese people have personal experience and the international community has given it high appraisal. Turning a blind eye to all these basic facts, the United States has repeatedly tabled anti-China motions, such a behavior only serves to expose its evil intentions. To put it bluntly, the aim of the United States is no more than slander and damage China's international image, put political pressure on China, undermine China's stability and proceed to curb and obstruct China's development. Such a hegemonic behavior that politicizes the human right issue has naturally met with the vehement condemnation of the Chinese government and people and has logically encountered the resolute opposition of the majority member states at the human right commission.

The world is varied and colorful. More and more countries have come to realize that the various countries can really and effectively promote and protect human rights only when they integrate the universal principle of human rights with their specific national conditions. With regard to differences in the human right issue, the various countries should, on the basis of equality and mutual respect and through dialogs and exchanges, learn from each other's strong points to make up each other's weaknesses and seek common grounds while reserving differences. This has become the current trend of the times in the field of international human rights. The United States insists on imposing its concept of value on others, arrogantly order people about by gestures, stubbornly tries to change the previous East-West confrontation at human right sessions into South-North confrontation. The numerous developing countries, of course, would not consent to this, even the allies of the United States would not approve of it. Although the United States resorts to both lure and pressure, no countries signed the US motion in joint names this year. The United States, which has always considered it to be "the leader of the world", has landed itself in utter isolation and courted its own defeat. Doesn't this deserve conscientious self-examination? There exist huge amounts of serious human-right violation problems such as racial discrimination and police violence in the United States, but the Americans avoid mentioning this. Here we offer a piece of advice to the American authorities: You better first manage your own affairs well, take to heart the general situation of promoting international human-right exchange and cooperation, come to realize your own errors and mend your ways at an early date and return to the correct path of dialogs at an equal footing.

Promoting the development of the human right cause represents the sincere wishes and fruitful practice of the Chinese government and people. The Chinese government is making exploration and progress, it concentrates its energy on developing the economy, improving people's living standards and perfecting democracy and the legal system. The people of all nationalities of China, uniting and working as one, are striving to build China into a strong, democratic, and culturally advanced modern socialist country. The wheel of history of the 21st century is rolling on. No one on earth can resist the trend of the growing strength and prosperity of China.
