International Seminar on Chinese Classic

The second international seminar on the study of the "Strange Tales of Liaozhai," a famous classic collection of ancient Chinese short stories from the early Qing ( 1644-1911), was held Thursday in east China's Shandong Province.

Nearly 100 experts and scholars from China, the United States, Russia, France, Japan, Singapore and Germany attended the seminar in Zibo, the hometown of Pu Songling, author of the book.

Pu, born in 1640, devoted his whole life to the work, which has been printed in 100 versions in 20 different languages. The book is warmly received by readers worldwide.

The experts agree that the book is a precious cultural heritage for the world. The book has led to the establishment of a special academic research field -- Liaozhai Study.

During the three-day event, the participants will discuss new research results and future trends of the study as well as the compilation on Liaozhai documents.
