Pyongyang Requests Fertilizer Assistance From SeoulThe Red Cross of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Thursday informed South Korea that it needs 200,000 tons of fertilizer this year."We propose your side provides 200,000 tons of urea fertilizer as early as possible to boost this year's farming," said the DPRK Red Cross in a telephone message to its South Korean counterpart. The message, which was transferred by the liaison office in the truce village of Panmumjom, proposed that the two sides follow previous examples on procedural matters for assistance, said the South Korean Red Cross. The DPRK request came one day after South Korean Unification Minister Lim Dong-won said Wednesday the South Korean government was considering of donating 200,000 tons of fertilizer to Pyongyang next month. Nitrogen-based urea fertilizer will probably cost more than other chemical fertilizers. |
