Hamas Claims Responsible for Mortar Attacks on Jewish Settlement

Palestinian resistance movement Hamas claimed responsible for Wednesday morning's mortar shelling on the Jewish settlement of Neve Dekalim settlement in Gush Katif, southern Gaza Strip.

Seven mortar shells landed Wednesday morning in the settlement and near an industrial zone north of Gaza Strip, causing no injury or damage.

The motar shelling came hours after the Israeli army ended its 20-hour reoccupation of the northeastern Gaza Strip Tuesday night under enormous international pressure.

In a statement issued Wednesday evening, Hamas said that it fired the mortar shells in retaliation for the recent Israeli air strikes on a Syrian radar station in Lebanon, adding that it was not concerned over the killing of Israeli women or children.

Earlier, the Palestinian military group also claimed responsible for the mortar attacks on the Israeli city of Sederot, about five kilometers north of Gaza Strip, on Monday.
