Highway Construction Reinforced in North China Province

Northeast China's Liaoning province has invested more than 28 billion yuan (3.3 billion US dollars) in highway network construction to increase the length of high-grade highway by 2,100 kilometers during the past five years.

The government aims to achieve a total highway length of more than 50,000 kilometers in the coming five years, according to a new ambitious plan.

Known for its heavy industry, Liaoning was the first province in the country to build an expressway and its total length of expressways is to be increased by 885 kilometers within five years.

Officials said that by then smooth highways will link all the cities and towns in the province.

The total length of highways on China's mainland is over 1.4 million kilometers, with an increase of 240,000 kilometers in the past five years, recent information from the Ministry of Communications revealed.

Expressway construction has also been developed rapidly and the total length of expressways throughout the country has reached 16, 000 kilometers, with an increase of 13,000 kilometers in the last five years.
