Hu Jintao Meets Vietnamese Party Secretary-GeneralHu, Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC), is leading a CPC delegation here to attend the 9th National Congress of CPV. Extending General Secretary Jiang Zemin's cordial greetings to Le, Hu said that the purpose of his current visit is to congratulate the opening of the CPV 9th National Congress and convey the deep friendship and good wishes of the CPC and the Chinese people to the CPV and the Vietnamese people. At the same time, Hu went on to say, he is also willing to learn from the experiences of Vietnam in its renovation process and socialist construction. He wished the upcoming congress a conference of wisdom, unity and victory. Hu noted that China and Vietnam, two close neighbors, enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges. The Chinese leader said that the exchanges and cooperation in various areas have undertaken a swift and comprehensive restoration, and a profound and in-depth development since the normalization of relations, adding that the high-level exchange of visits and meetings have played an important yet irreplaceable role in ensuring the smooth development of the relations between the two parties and the two countries. Citing the meeting between Jiang and Le in Beijing in February 1999, Hu said that the meeting has pushed the relations between the two parties and the two countries into a new stage. In that meeting, Jiang and Le, proceeding from the strategic height and the overall Sino-Vietnam friendship, set forth the principle of building the long-term, stable, future-oriented, good- neighborly and all-round cooperative relations for the 21st century. Under the above principle, with efforts from both sides, the two countries have signed several important agreements, such as the land boundary treaty, the agreement on the demarcation in the Beibu Gulf, and the agreement on fishery cooperation, Hu said. He noted that the two countries issued a joint statement on all- round cooperation in the new century, when Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong visited China at the end of last year. These important events will be listed in the good-neighborly friendship history between the two countries, he said. Le asked Hu to pass on his best wishes to Jiang, saying the relations between the two parties and countries have displayed a good momentum and the guiding principle for bilateral relations has been deep-rooted in the hearts of the people. He stated that the friendly cooperative ties between the two nations have not only brought about great economic and trade benefits, but also significant political interests, he said, adding that in the future, the relations between the two parties and countries will surely enjoy a continuous promotion. Hu spoke highly of the achievements Vietnam has made under the leadership of the CPV, saying that Vietnam has embarked on a development road that combines its own national conditions and the basic principles of Marxism. China is pleased to see the political and social stability, swift economic advancement and other impressive progress in Vietnam, Hu said. Extending a warm welcome to Hu and his high-ranking delegation here, Le said he thanked the CPC's support for the CPV and the Vietnamese people. Various preparations for the upcoming congress have been underway and he is convinced that the congress will be a successful one, he said. Hu said he believed the CPV will lead its people to achieve greater progress in the socialist construction and renovation process in the new century. After the meeting, Hu paid a visit to the Mausoleum of Vietnam' s late president Ho Chi Minh. |
