China Digital Library Aims to Be Biggest DCP

Digitizing more than 200,000 pages of information a day, the China Digital Library aims to become the world's biggest digital content provider (DCP) of information in Chinese.

Qin Subin, deputy general manager of the China Digital Library Corp. Ltd., said Wednesday the service includes choosing, processing, organizing, managing, protecting and spreading the digital information content.

The digital library, which opened a year ago, is based on the National Library's collection of more than 20 million books and the information organizations and their service networks throughout the country. It now has a digitized database of over 60 million pages of books, including five sub-databases featuring China's ancient poems, ancient architecture, the Forbidden City in Beijing, the sea and the structure of universe. Some 40 million pages of the materials are available on the Internet.

Qin said that users logging onto www.d-library.com.cn are able to obtain information easily.
