NPC Chairman Meets President of First Chamber of NetherlandsLi recalled his visit to the Netherlands in 1998 and spoke highly of the sound development momentum in bilateral relations in recent years. It is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples for China and the Netherlands to reinforce cooperation, he said, adding that so long as both sides proceed from a strategic height and stick to the principle of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, bilateral ties will realize a healthy and smooth progress. China's NPC highly emphasizes its friendly contacts with the States-General of the Netherlands, Li said, expressing the belief that the delegation's current visit will further deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two parliaments. Altes said China and the Netherlands have deepened their mutual understanding and friendship over recent years, citing as proof the increasing economic cooperation and frequent high-level exchanges of visits. He suggested that both sides should enhance cooperation in the sectors of environmental protection, information technology and agriculture. Altes also voiced the hope that Beijing would succeed in its bidding for the 2008 Olympics.
