NPC Chairman Meets Yugoslavian Deputy PMLi, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, made the remark at a meeting with Miroljub Labus, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign economic relations of Yugoslavia. Li noted that the Chinese government has always adhered to an independent foreign policy of peace and believes that every country and nation have the right to choose their own development paths. China is opposed to foreign interference in its internal affairs and will not interfere in the internal affairs of any other country, said Li. Labus conveyed Yugoslavian President Vojislav Kostunica's regards to Chinese President Jiang Zemin and presented a letter from Kostunica to Jiang, who is on a visit in Latin America. Labus said that Yugoslavia highly values China's influence in international politics and believes that China will play an increasing role in international affairs, which is important for world peace and stability. Yugoslavia hopes to keep friendly relations with China, added Labus. Li said that China, a friend of Yugoslavia, hopes to see political stability, national reconciliation and economic resurgence in Yugoslavia. He said China appreciates President Kostunica's firm stance against the NATO bombing, pointing out that China was also a victim of the bombing which claimed the lives of three Chinese journalists and brought pain to the Chinese people. China supports a multi-polar world, believing that the domination of the world by a single country or a small number of countries is not only unfair and unjust, but also dangerous, Li stressed. Labus said that the Yugoslavian government and people are convinced that China's support to Yugoslavia during NATO's bombing was very important, and it's a pity that the Chinese Embassy there was targeted in the bombing. Yugoslavia agrees with China on China's foreign policy which stands for equality among all countries, big or small, and non- interference in other countries' internal affairs, Labus said, adding that Yugoslavia will handle the relations with its neighboring countries through dialogs.
