Xiamen's Foreign Trade up in First Quarter

Foreign trade in Xiamen, south China's Fujian Province, totaled some 2.43 billion US dollars in the first quarter, up 13.2 percent compared to the same period last year.

Statistics indicated that Xiamen's foreign trade accounted for 48.1 percent of the Fujian provincial total, with export and import amounting to 1.42 billion U.S. dollars and 1.01 billion US dollars respectively.

Sources said that some 4,000 foreign investment projects had become major contributors to Xiamen's foreign trade, with export and import standing at 880 million US dollars and 740 million US dollars respectively, accounting for 61.9 percent and 73.3 percent of the city's total.

Industries involving biotechnology, electronics and hi-techs also witnessed fast growths during the same period.

The export of electrical products reached some 570 million US dollars, for example, accounting for 40.4 percent of the city's export total.
