Japanese Corp. to Make Additional Investment in Guizhou

Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co., Ltd. of Japan will make additional investments in southwest China' s Guizhou Province, according to the company's president Shimpei Miyamura.

During Tuesday's meeting with Vice-governor of Guizhou Liu Changgui, Shimpei Miyamura said he was deeply impressed with the great changes in Guizhou and was happy to see that the local investment environment had improved markedly.

Liu Changgui said that China's strategy of developing its western region has provided good opportunities for Guizhou's development, and offered good chances for big companies like Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co., Ltd. in terms of investment policies and projects.

Liu expressed the hope that the two sides will further expand cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit.

The Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co., Ltd., with a history of over 120 years, is one of the world's top 500 multinational corporations. The company and Guizhou set up a joint venture in 1995. The Japanese company plans to make additional investments in the joint venture, which manufactures automotive parts.

Shimpei Miyamura and his entourage arrived in Guizhou Tuesday and will stay for two days to investigate the local investment environment.
