Chinese State Councilor Meets UNDP Administer

State Councilor Wu Yi Tuesday expressed appreciation over the successful cooperation between China and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the past 21 years, saying she hopes the two sides would further the cooperation in the future.

At a meeting with UNDP Administer Mark Brown, Wu said UNDP, with its technical aid, has provided information and channels for China to understand better about the world's advanced technologies and experiences in the process of China's reform and economic development.

The next five to ten years will be an important period for China's economic and social development, when China will conduct strategic economic restructuring, perfect the socialist market economic system and open wider to the rest of the world, Wu said.

"We need to continue to draw on all helpful experiences and learn advanced technologies of other countries," Wu said, adding that China will continue to increase cooperation with UNDP in this regard.

China has made considerable progress in economic development over the past 20 years, but it is still a populous developing country with a low per capita income, she said. China is grateful to UNDP for its long-term aid and hopes that such assistance would continue, she added.

Brown voiced gladness over China's economic achievement and its fruitful cooperation with UNDP. He said UNDP is willing to work together with the Chinese government to jointly contribute to the country's reform and modernization drive.
