More than 30 teams have registered to enter the eight-day event, which is described as the one of the "most attractive and adventurous activities" by the "National Geographic" magazine.

The driftage will be held on the Yangtze River, the longest river in China. Participants will have to perform in a 25-km long speed race and then a relay race of 70 km.

The festival has been held twice since 1999. The aim of the festival is to protect the environment along the Yangtze River and give people have a better understanding of the Yangtze River, said the organizer.
