'Unilateralism Has limits, and Costs': New York Times

"The lesson of the episode should not have been lost on Mr. Bush. For all its power, the United States cannot just impose its will on the world," pointed out a signed article published in "New York Times" on April 14, according to the report by the "Liberation Daily".

It is said in the article titled "The Two George W. Bushes" that Bush's foreign policy moves has had U.S. allies talking worriedly about his unilateralism, arrogance and bullying. One of the examples was "his sudden cancellation of talks with DPRK to the embarrassment of the South Korean president, Kim Dae Jung, who was visiting Washington at the time. Another was his disavowal of the Kyoto protocol on global warming, which shocked Europeans."

On the same day, the "Washington Post" also published a letter in which the writer criticized the unscrupulous blames put on China by some US media. The writer said that suppose the roles of the two countries were changed and if it was China who conducted short-distance and provocative spying activities along the US coastline, how would the US react? If a similar collision killed an American pilot, how would the US react? It pointed out that the US is a trick player who is good at saying one thing but doing another and adopting double standards in same cases.

With regard to the recent plane collision, former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Kissinger also said that the US should not confront with China.

Kissinger mentioned Sino-US relationship during an interview with Fox News TV station. He indicated that the US should consider the mid-term and long-term relationship with the country. China has a large population that accounts for 20 percent of the gross population of the world, Kissinger said, it has a history of more than 5,000 years. We should not get ourselves into unnecessary confrontation. China and the US shouldn't confront with each other.

In addition, according to last Sunday's report by the CBS, after the plane collision, some anti-China congressmen took advantage of the collision to exert pressure upon Bush administration. Some congressmen of Democratic Party and Republican Party expressed on April 15 that due to the plane collision, the US-China relationship will surely become more complicated, however, they hope it will not influence some affairs like trade with China. As regards the suggestion on obstructing Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games which is put forward by some congressmen, many senators believe it is no good to do so, "a government of a nation should not involve in the decisions by international organizations like the IOC."

US Seriously Violates International Law: Signed Article

A signed article titled "A Look at Plane Collision Incident From Perspective of International Law" published Sunday stresses the U.S. side's breaching of international law in regards to the collision between a U.S. military reconnaissance plane and a Chinese fighter jet.

The article by Li Qin presents an in-depth analysis of the airplane collision incident from the perspective of international law.
