Development of Sino-US Relations Needs Efforts from Both Sides

Development of Sino-US Relations Needs Efforts from Both Sides: FM
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Tuesday that China has all along attached importance to China-US ties and the smooth development of the bilateral relations needs the efforts of both sides.

Zhang said at a press conference that the friendly and cooperative relations between China and the United States are beneficial to both sides and vital to peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world as well.

However, the spokeswoman noted, the development of such relations should be based on the three Sino-US joint communiques and such international norms as mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

After the incident that a US reconnaissance plane bumped into and destroyed a Chinese military plane on April 1, the Chinese side, taking the development of the China-US relations into consideration, has handled it in a cool-headed manner and with restraint, Zhang said.

What's regretful is that some ranking officials of the US. government have continuously made irresponsible remarks in the past few days, turning a blind eye to the facts and calling white black in a bid to shake off the responsibilities of the US side, the spokeswoman said.

"Such acts are harmful to the development of the China-US relations," said Zhang, expressing the hope that the US side would adopt an active and responsible approach to the handling of the incident and other issues concerning the bilateral relations, and stop doing things that harm the relations.
