People's Daily Commentary on Falun Gong

People's Daily publishes a commentary Wednesday condemning the Falun Gong cult, headed by Li Hongzhi, for its evil deeds against innocent people.

To cherish, care about and protect lives is a common understanding of a civilized society, and to take away the lives of innocent people is the most severe crime and an unforgivable infringement upon human rights, the commentary says.

As other evil cults in the world, Falun Gong not only incites its followers to commit suicides, but also instigates them to kill or injur others, thus bringing disasters to the victims and deep sorrow to the victims' families.

After citing the countless crimes done by Falun Gong followers, the commentary points out: "The cult is a killer".

Tang Zhihua, a Falun Gong follower in southwest China's Sichuan Province, believed in Li Hongzhi's nonsense that doomsday is coming and lost his confidence to live. In August, last year, he attempted to behead his 2-year-old son and kill himself.

The child survived, but is severely injured.

Li Ting, a Falun Gong follower in north China's Hebei Province, believed after reading a Falun Gong book that he was a Buddha and his parents were devils. This belief finally resulted in his killing of his parents with a knife on March 20, 1999.

For the same reason, Wu Qiaode, a Falun Gong follower in east China's Jiangsu Province, killed his wife at home in February, 1998. Today, evil cults have become very harmful to the world, the commentary says, adding that they create heretical ideas, apotheosize cult leaders, exsert mental control of people, collect money by playing tricks, break laws, undermine social stability, and kill people.

Governments of many countries, including those in Japan and Uganda, have launched various campaigns to crack down on evil cult, the commentary notes.

The Chinese government has made great efforts to put down the Falun Gong cult. So far, most Falun Gong followers in China have realized the cult's nature and Li Hongzhi's tricks. Thanks to the government's help, many innocent people, especially women, children and the elderly, have been well protected and have returned to normal life.

The commentary calls for the Chinese people to wipe out Falun Gong from the society.
