Reactor Shut Down at Russian Nuclear Power Plant

A reactor at the Smolensk nuclear power plant, west of Moscow, was shut down early Monday after the discovery of a fault in its electrical system, the state atomic energy agency Rosenergoatom said.

The shutdown did not affect the safe operation of the station and radiation levels surrounding the plant remained normal, the agency added in a statement.
