Wahid's Backers warned Not to Be Engaged in Anarchist Actions
Thousands of fanatic backers of the Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid were warned here Tuesday by Commander of the Jakarta Military Command Maj.Gen. Bibit Waluyo not to be engaged in anarchist actions in the capital ahead of the House plenary session which is due on April 30.
Waluyo also warned that carrying sharp weapons without police permit was an unlawful action.
"I warn them (Wahid's backers) not to be engaged anarchist actions...they must respect the existing law," Waluyo was quoted by the local TV station Metro TV as saying in Bogor, West Java province, on Tuesday.
The House of Representatives is due to stage a plenary session on late April where all 10 factions in the legislative body would deliver their general opinion to the president's reply to its first censure.
Reports said that major factions in the House would send the second censure to Wahid that will pave the way for the staging of special session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) where Wahid could be impeached.
It appeared that Waluyo's stance was in harmony with Chief of the National Police Gen. Suroyo Bimantoro who also disagreed with fanatic backers of Wahid who would flood the capital on April 29- 30, coincided with the House plenary session.
Thousands of Wahid's backers particularly in East Java province have been conducting a war-game over past days in the jungle in the province, in what they said as precautionary measures to combat Wahid's political foes who want to oust the Muslim cleric.
Bimantoro said that there was no law or regulation in the country permitting civilians to conduct military training activities.
He also said that he has ordered Chief of the East Java Provincial Police to stop the military exercise by Wahid's backers.
