Construction has started recently on the second and third districts of the Suzhou Industrial Park.
The largest cooperative project between China and Singapore, the Suzhou Industrial Park has absorbed 8 billion US dollars since being launched in 1994.
The decision to enlarge the park came after both sides found the performance of the first district, about 8 sq km in size, highly satisfactory in the telecommunications, precise machining and bio-pharmaceutical industries.
The development momentum was not at all affected when China became the controlling share holder at the beginning of this year.
The second district will focus on hi-tech and the third on the processing industry. Upon completion, the entire park will provide 360,000 job opportunities.
